CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSENT Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Approval of Resolution No. 7211, A resolution requesting funding from Mn/DOT through the Municipal Agreement Program from CR 69 to Taylor Street. DATE: July 2, 2012 INTRODUCTION: Attached is Resolution No. 7211, A resolution requesting funding from Mn/DOT through the Municipal Agreement Program for Vierling Drive from CR 69 to Taylor Street. BACKGROUND: On May 15 2012, City Council approved a motion approving staff to submit for a Mn/DOT Municipal Agreement application for the Vierling Drive extension from CR 69 to Taylor Street. Also part of that agenda item was to approve the proposal from WSB & Associates to prepare a Municipal Agreement Program submittal. In order to complete the submittal to Mn/DOT for the Municipal Agreement Program, resolution no. 7211 needs to be adopted by the City Council as part of the submittal package. With this resolution, the City of Shakopee is requesting financial participation from Mn/DOT through the Municipal Agreement Program and the City is committed to provide the local share of cost if selected as part of this Municipal Agreement Program. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Offer Resolution No. 7211, a Resolution requesting funding from Mn/DOT to the Municipal Agreement Program for the Vierling Drive extension from CR 69 to Taylor Street and move its adoption. 2. Do not approve Resolution No. 7211, thus terminate the application for the Metro Municipal Agreement with Mn/DOT. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff would recommend Alternative No. 1, as this resolution is needed in order to make the submittal which Council authorized on May 15 2012. ACTION REQUESTED: 1. Public Works Director ENGRi2012- PROJECTS /COUNCII/Res. 7211, Approval of funding request for Mn/DOT Municipal Agreement Program on Vierling Dr. RESOLUTION NO. 7211 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING FUNDING FROM MN/DOT THROUGH THE MUNICIPAL AGREEMENT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee wishes to complete the Vierling Drive connection to County Road 69 to provide a local parallel route along Trunk Highway 169; and, WHEREAS, the project will be of mutual benefit to both the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the City of Shakopee; and, WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee is requesting financial participation in the project from the Minnesota Department of Transportation ( MN/DOT) through the Municipal Agreement Program; and, WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee is committed to providing the local share of the costs if the project is selected as part of the upcoming Municipal Agreement Program; and, WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee is committed to completing the project if selected and funding is provided as part of the FY 2014 Municipal Agreement Program; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA. The City of Shakopee is requesting funding from MnIDOT for the completion of the Vierling Drive connection to County Road 69.
