I. ntm V:77, PIT W �;,� VI CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, Public Works Director SUBJECT: Approval of Plans for Upper Valley Drainage Way and Trail Improvements by CR 17, Project No. 2011 -3 DATE: June 5, 2012 INTRODUCTION: Attached is Resolution No. 7203, a resolution approving plans for the Upper Valley Drainage Way and Trail Improvements near CR 17 and ordering advertising for bid. BACKGROUND: Previously on July 5, 2011, City Council approved an extension with WSB & Associates, Inc. for design services on the Upper Valley Drainage Way to improve the slope stabilization and drainage performance and safety of the adjacent trail by County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 17. Plans have been completed and the main plan sheets are attached for Council review and approval and to start the advertisement for bids. Main improvements in the area would be the removal of all loose riprap, stabilization of the slopes and safety improvements for the adjacent trail under County Road 17. Not included with these plans are the installation of two pedestrian lights on either side of the pedestrian underpass for safety. This work would be coordinated with Shakopee Public Utilities and not part of these plans. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt Resolution 7203, a resolution approving plans and specifications and ordering advertisement for bids for the Upper Valley Drainage Way and Trail Improvements, Project 2011 -3. 2. Deny Resolution 7203. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Offer Resolution No. 7203, a resolution approving plans and specifications and ordering advertisement for bids for the Upper Valley Drainage Way and Trail Improvements, Project 2011 -3 and move its adoption. This project would be funded by the Storm drainage enterprise fund as it is being done to correct a storm water efficiency in the upper valley drainage way. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA: 1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is on file and of record in the Office of the City Engineer, are hereby approved. 2. The City Clerk shall prepare and cause to be inserted in the official paper and in the Construction Bulletin an advertisement for bids upon the making of such improvement under such approved plans and specifications.
