CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Appointments to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and Environmental Advisory Committee DATE: November 1, 2006 INTRODUCTION: The Council is asked to appoint Mateus Ferraz-Souza to the Environmental Advisory Committee, and act on a recommendation to be made at the November 8th meeting, regarding the single vacancy on the Park and Recreation Advisory Board. BACKGROUND: The Environmental Advisory Committee is composed of five members and the Park and Recreation Advisory Board is composed of seven members. One member from each has resigned. Councilors Steve Menden and Steve Clay, EAC Vice Chair Heidi Benedict, and PRAB Vice Chair Rob Root interviewed the candidates. They are recommending that Mateus Ferraz-Souza be appointed to the Environmental Advisory Committee. RECOMMENDATION: The panel recommends that Mateus Ferraz-Souza be appointed to the Environmental Advisory Committee, and act on a recommendation regarding.the Park and Recreation Advisory Board. Also included in Resolution No. 6527 is the reappointment of Kathy Gerlach and Heidi Benedict to .the Environmental Advisory Committee for three year terms expiring February 28, 2009. You may remember that their appointments were postponed earlier this year while the members of the Park and Recreation Advisory Board and Environmental Advisory Committee met jointly to determine if it would be appropriate to combine the two groups. It was determined to continue with the two separate groups. Their appointments should be made at this .time. ACTION REQUIRED: The Council should, by motion, make the appointments and adopt the attached resolution: RESOLUTION NO. 6527 A RESOLUTION APPOINTING INDIVIDUALS TO THE PARK AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE One ofthree candidates was unavailable to be interviewed on the evening that the other applicants were interviewed. She has been rescheduled to be interviewed prior to the City Council meeting. Mateus Ferraz-Souza is appointed to the Environmental Advisory Committee to fill the unexpired term of Kate Lease, expiring February 28,2007.
