Set Workshop Meeting DatesTO: FROM: SUBJECT: DATE: CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator Set Workshop Meeting Dates January 4, 2011 Comment: Introduction: The City Council is asked to set special meeting dates to discuss two subjects. Background: 1. Following the defeat of the Community Center on November 2" Parks, Recreations, and Natural Resources Director Jamie Polley held a day long retreat with her staff to discuss the future of the department, and specifically, the future of the Community Center. Several ideas were generated as a result of that. Ms. Polley has scheduled a similar meeting with the Park and Recreation Advisory Board at its regular meeting of January 24 Her recommendation is to subsequently schedule a joint meeting with the Council to discuss their recommendations, and get Council input. In addition, Mark Themig of Scott County would like time to review a proposal regarding a connection for a regional trail system from the southerly part of Shakopee to the Minnesota River Trail. Part of the proposal would be to utilize Holmes Street from the downtown to 10 Avenue. Prior to scheduling any public information meetings on this, the Council is asked to give its feedback. Recommended date: Tuesday, February 8th, 7 PM 2. The Scott County Board is seeking to hold some of its regular meetings during evening hours. It has been suggested that at least one evening meeting be held in each of the five commissioner districts. Items of interest to that particular district will be discussed, and, in some cases, tours of the local library or CDA projects will be held. It is expected that roadway improvements will be on the agenda for Shakopee. It is proposed that the first meeting be held in District 3, which includes Shakopee. Recommended date: Tuesday, February 22nd, 6:30 PM (Location — either County Board Room or Council Chambers - -to be determined.) '3. F. /. Recommendation: I recommend the meetings be scheduled as described above. Relationship to Visioning: This supports Goal A — "Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community where residents can pursue active and quality lifestyles"; and Goal D, "Maintain, improve, and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities." Action Required: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, set meeting dates for February 8, and February 22, 2011. tu,Q lhouwAL Mark McNeill MM:cn City Administrator Monday Tuesday January 2011 Wednesday Thursday Friday 3 4 7:00 pm City Council 5 6 7:00 pm Planning Commission 7 10 6:00 pm Historic Preservation 11 12 7:00 pm Environmental Advisory Commission 13 6:30 pm Transit 14 17 Martin Luther King Jr. Day City Facilities Closed 18 7:00 pm City Council 19 6:00 pm EDAC 20 21 24 7:00 pm Park & Rec Advisory Board 25 26 7:00 pm Telecommunications 27 28 31 Monday Tuesday January 2011 Wednesday Thursday Friday Monday Tuesday February 2011 Wednesday Thursday Friday 1 7:00 pm City Council 2 3 7:00 pm Planning Commission 4 7 8 7:00 pm Joint Meeting w/ PRAB (Proposed) 9 7:00 pm Environmental Advisory Commission 10 6:30 pm Transit 11 14 6:00 pm Historic Preservation 15 7:00 pm City Council 16 6:00 pm EDAC 17 18 21 7:00 pm Park & Rec Advisory 22 6:30 pm Joint Meeting w/ Scott County Board (Proposed) 23 24 25 28 Monday Tuesday February 2011 Wednesday Thursday Friday
