S:O,;t,
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
MEMORANDUM COt~SE~~T
To: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
From: Mark Themig, Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Director
Meeting Date: October 17, 2006
Subject: Contract Extension for Park Construction and Administration Services
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to authorize a contract extension with Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik
& Associates for additional assistance with 2006 park construction projects.
BACKGOUND AND DISCUSSION
In May, City Council authorized a contract extension with Bonestroo for park
construction inspection and administration services in an amount not to exceed $75,000
for the following projects:
Huber Park Countryside Parks (3)
Tahpah Park Stans Park Trails
Church Addition Park Greenfield West Park
Although we anticipated that the costs for this service would be higher based on the
volume of work, this amount was chosen to ensure that the funds were used diligently on
the eight projects.
Stuart Krahn from Bonestroo notified me that we are at approximately 90% of the
allocated funding from the period May-October. In discussing the status of the current
projects and future needs with Andrea Weber, we anticipate needing continued services
from Bonestroo only for the Huber Park project through 2007 and Tahpah Park, which is
anticipated to be complete by the end of October. Andrea Weber would oversee
construction of the Southbridge Savanna Oaks park that recently began, and the
completion of Countryside parks and Church Addition park.
I anticipate that Tahpah and Huber will require an additional $30,000 in funding for
construction administration. Since the preliminary $75,000 for all park projects was lower
than what we anticipated our actual costs would be, the project budgets for Huber and
Tahpah contained funding that would cover this additional cost.
I did discuss having Engineering provide future construction administration and
inspection services with Mr. Loney, and while that may be possible for 2007 projects, we
agreed that it would be best to continue our relationship with Bonestroo for completion of
Tahpah and Huber parks.
