Subject: Authorization to Hire for City Hall Receptionist
INTRODUCTION
The City Council is asked to authorize hiring Carmela Nascene for the part-time position of City
Hall Receptionist.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Following the resignation of Anita Davis, the City Council authorized staffto begin the hiring
process to, fill the afternoon Receptionist position at City Hall. We received over 70 applications
for the position. An interview panel consisting of Judy Cox, Lori Hensen and myself
interviewed four candidates and is recommending that the position be offered to Carmela
Nascene.
Ms. Nascene's work experience includes two and a half years as a part-time Records Technician
/ Clerk II for Pine County, Minnesota. Her references spoke very highly of her ability to interact
with the public under a variety of circumstances and conditions. If approved, Ms. Nascene will
work as the City Hall Receptionist from 11 :45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Her anticipated start date
is October 23.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council authorize hiring Carmela Nascene for the part-time
position of City Hall Receptionist, with a starting salary at Grade 1, Step E ($13.19 per hour).
This action is contingent on successful completion of the City's required pre-employment
screenmgs.
RELATIONSHIP TO VISION
The hiring of well qualified individuals to serve the residents of Shakopee contributes to Goal D
- a vibrant, resilient and stable community.
REQUESTED ACTION
If Council concurs, it should move to authorize hiring Carmela Nascene for the part-time
position of City Hall Receptionist, with a starting salary at Grade 1, Step E ($13.19 per hour),
contingent on the successful completion of the City's required pre-employment screenings.
