SUBJECT: Purchasing Limit - Ordinance No. 701

INTRODUCTION:
City Council is asked to consider the adoption of the attached Ordinance No. 701.
BACKGROUND:
At the regular meeting on March 16, 2004, City Council directed staff to prepare an
amendment to the City Code to increase the purchasing limit from $5,000 to $10,000 for
items not requiring prior Council approval. The attached Ordinance No. 701 amends the
City Code to allow for this increase.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Offer Ordinance No. 701, Fourth Series, An Ordinance of the City of Shako pee,
Minnesota, Amending Chapter 2.05 City Administrator, and move its adoption.

ORDINANCE NO. 701, FOURTH SERIES
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA,
AMENDING CHAPTER 2.05 CITY ADMINISTRATOR
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ORDAINS:
Section 1 - That City Code Chapter 2, Administration and General Government, Section
2.05, is hereby amended by adding the language that is underlined and deleting the language that
is struck through.
City Code Sec. 2,05. City Administrator
Subd.5. Duties. The City Administrator shall be the Chief Administrative Officer of the
City and shall be responsible to the Council for the proper administration of all affairs of the City
and to that end shall be empowered and required to:
H. Purchase or enter into contracts for previously budgeted items when the
amount thereof does not exceed $5,000 $10,000, and purchase or enter into contracts for
previously budgeted services, when the annual amount of such contract does not exceed $5,000
$10,000. For items and services in excess of$5,000 $10,000, the City Administrator shall
receive estimates, quotations, proposals, or sealed bids, as appropriate, and present them to the
Council for official action.
Section 2 - Effective Date. This ordinance becomes effective from and after its passage
and publication.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, held
this 6th day of April, 2004.
