Subject: Acceptance of Donation from Shakopee Jaycees, Resolution No. 6407
INTRODUCTION
City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6407, a resolution of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, accepting a donation in the amount of $25,000 from the Shakopee Jaycees.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
The City has received a donation from the Shakopee Jaycees in the amount of $25,000 to use
towards the Tahpah Park Re-construction Project. A portion of the donation ($1500) is the
Shakopee Jaycees concession payment in accordance to the 2005 Concession Agreement of the
Tahpah Park.softball complex.
The City of Shakopee appreciates the generosity of the Shako pee Jaycees, which helps support
the City's parks and recreation services and the development of Tahpah Park.
The City's donation policy requires a 2/3 vote to accept cash donations over $1,000 and
donations of real property.
VISIONING. RELATIONSHIP
The acceptance of the donation will help ensure the long-term viability of the City's park system
that serves our residents, employees and guests. With this in mind, this action appears to meet
the following aspects of the City's vision:

Great place for kids to grow up
Vibrant, resilient and stable
Financially strong
Strategies: Increase use of Park and Recreation
Foster community connections
Provide high quality services
Make community welcoming
Ensure City's fiscal health
REOUESTED ACTION
City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6407, a resolution of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, accepting the $25,000 donation from the Shakopee Jaycees.
RESOLUTiON NO. 6407
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA
ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $25,000 FROM THE SHAKOPEE JAYCEES
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopt~d Resolution
No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and
donations by the City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property
shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds
majority of the Council for acceptance; and
. WHEREAS, THE SHAKOPEE JA YCEESSHAKOPEE LIONS have
generously donated $25, 000 for the 2006 Tahpah Park Reconstruction Project;
and
WHEREAS, such a donation will help improve park facilities and enhance
.the overall quality of like in Shakopee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation in the amount of
$25,000 is gratefully accepted; and
FURTHER, the $25,000 donation shall be used towards the 2006 Tahpah
Park Reconstruction Project, which is consistent with the wishes of the donor.
FURTHER, the City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor,
acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City
Council.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota held this 18th Day of April, 2006.
