SUBJECT: Street Closure Request DATE: March 30, 2004 INTRODUCTION: The Police Department is requesting approval to close a 6th Ave. from Sommerville St. to Lewis St. from June 25 to June 28, 2004. BACKGROUND: On February 24,2004, city staff received a request from Gretchen Theis to close 6th Ave. from Sommerville St. to Lewis St. from June 25 to June 28, 2004, for the "St. Mary's Parish Feast and Fun Festival". This is a charitable event. The request is attached to this memorandum. . RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the closure of 6th Ave. from Sommerville St. to Lewis St. from June 25 to June 28, 2004 to assist with the charitable event. As per our . conversation, you stated that we should send you a formal letter with our request for road closer June 25 - June 28 for our Parish Festival. We would like to put a tent up later on Friday, June 25, and it would come down early Monday, June 28th. You asked for this letter 6 weeks from the date of the event. However we need to order a tent, and are seeking approval at your earliest convenience. We would like to close 6th Street from Sommerville Street west to the beginning of the 1st driveway there. This way we would not block the homeowner's driveway access. This section is the most flat part of the roads that surround our parking lot, and would ensure safer conditions for our participants. Our plans include the set up of a tent and/or freestanding games/stands on the street in this area. For purposes of tent setup and takedown, we would like to close off this area from 3:00 p.m., Friday evening, June 25, until 6:00 p.m., Monday evening, June 28. Festival activities would only be held from Saturday evening and through Sunday evening. Please feel free to contact us for any additional information that may be necessary for this request.
