No. 7071TO: FROM: SUBJECT: DATE: CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator Miscellaneous Donations December 20, 2010 Comment: Introduction: The purpose of this memorandum is to acknowledge smaller donations that have recently been received by the City. Background: Resolution No. 5794, approved November 6, 2002, states that periodically, the City Administrator shall prepare and bring to the City Council for adoption, a resolution acknowledging the receipt and the acceptance of non -cash donations valued at less than $500, and cash donations valued as less than $1000 that have been received by city staff. This year, the City has received the following donations: 5. F. 5. 1. January, 2010 - -$250 received from Shakopee Jaycees as part of the Shakopee Derby Days event, in appreciation of assistance rendered by the police department. They have been notified that training equipment was purchased for the department. 2. February, 2010 - -$100 received from Residential Mortgage Group (RMG) which is part of a donation program called "Refer a friend, build your community ". The Shakopee Police Department thanked them for selecting their organization and informed them that the gift was deposited into the Crime Prevention budget. 3. October, 2010 - -$100 each was received from The Shakopee Girls Basketball Association, The Shakopee Girls Softball Association, Bridge Chiropractic, and Lions Tap to help with the Parks & Recreations Jack 0 Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event. 4. October, 2010- -$500 received from Shakopee Jaycees to help with the Parks and Recreations Jack 0 Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event. 5. October, 2010 - -$500 received from Park Nicollet to help with the Parks and Recreations Jack 0 Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event. 6. December, 2010 - -$500 received from Shakopee Lions Club for the Parks and Recreations Jack Frost New Year's Eve party. 1 71 1: 7 P741 MM:cn In order to comply with City policy, a resolution (attached) should be adopted. Relationship to Visioning: This supports Goals D— "Maintain, improve, and create strong partnerships with other public and private sector entities ". Recommendation: I recommend that the resolution be adopted. Action Required: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion offer the following: Resolution No. 7071 A Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota Accepting Donations to the City, and move its adoption. 21/:51uUJ13 Mark McNeill City Administrator A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING DONATIONS TO THE CITY. RESOLUTION NO. 7071 WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee is occasionally presented with donations from individuals, and from non - profit and profit agencies; and, WHEREAS, statute M.S. 465.03 requires the City Council to adopt a resolution by a two - thirds vote to accept personal or real property; and, WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794, approved by the City Council on November 6, 2002, further specifies that a Resolution shall be approved acknowledging the receipt and acceptance of non -cash donations valued at less than $500 and cash donations valued at less than $1000 that have been received by city staff; and, ATTEST: City Clerk WHEREAS, in 2010 the City of Shakopee has received these qualifying donations: • Shakopee Jaycees - -$250 for Police Department training equipment. • Residential Mortgage Group, Minnetonka, MN- -$100 for Police Department Crime Prevention budget. • Shakopee Girls Basketball Association - -$100 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Shakopee Girls Softball Association -- -$100 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Bridge Chiropractic of Shakopee -- -$100 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Lions Tap of Eden Prairie, MN -- -$100 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Shakopee Jaycees - -$500 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Park Nicollet of Shakopee, MN- -$500 for the Jack O'Lantern 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run event sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. • Shakopee Lions Club- -$500 for the Jack Frost New Year's Eve party sponsored by the Shakopee Parks & Recreations Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, that the above donations are gratefully acknowledged and accepted and shall be put to use in accordance with the wishes of the donor.
