Consider Stop Signs for 8 Avenue and Dakota Street
November 9, 2010
From the 2010 Street Reconstruction Improvement Project, staff is requesting to install stop
signs on 8 Avenue with the intersection of Dakota Street.
Dakota Street and 8 Avenue have been reconstructed this past summer. Dakota Street is a
neighborhood feeder connection and now a snow emergency route from 4 Avenue to 10
Avenue. Dakota Street has approximately 900 ADT at this intersection with 8 Avenue traffic
much smaller.
Prior to reconstruction of 8 Avenue, this street had major dips at Dakota Street and signs to
warn traffic. In review of the area, 7 Avenue has stop signs at Dakota Street as Dakota Street is
the major route.
Staff is proposing to install stop signs on 8 Avenue similar to 7 Avenue, as Dakota Street is
the major route and to establish right -of -way for this intersection.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Approve a motion directing staff to install stop signs on 8 Avenue with this intersection
of Dakota Street.
2. Do not approve a motion to install stop signs.
3. Table for additional information and/or further study.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative No. 1.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve a motion directing staff to install stop signs on 8 Avenue with the intersection of
Dakota Street.
