No. 7061DATE: November 9, 2010 INTRODUCTION: BACKGROUND: VISIONING RELATIONSHIP: This action supports: ACTION REQUESTED: CITY OF SHAKOPEE POLICE DEPARTMENT Memorandum C C F '2' TO: Mayor and City Council 4'+2 t Mark McNeill, City Administrator Jeff Tate, Chief of Police/Emergency Management Director SUBJECT: Request to Accept Donation from Shakopee Jaycees by Resolution No. 7061 City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 7061, a Resolution accepting a donation of $1,000.00 from the Shakopee Jaycees, to be used towards the purchase of equipment and supplies for the department's emergency driving training program. The police department recently sent three officers to become certified driving instructors. By doing so, the department will save significant money by conducting this P.O.S.T. Board mandated training in- house. Having certified emergency driving instructors also allows for other City staff to receive defensive driving training. The Shakopee Jaycees have made a gracious donation of $1,000 to the police department to purchase additional training supplies and equipment for the department's emergency driving training program. This equipment will be used to improve the department's driver training course. Goal C — Maintain the City's strong financial health. Strategy 6: Provide high quality services Strategy 10: Ensure City's fiscal health If City Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt Resolution No.7061, a Resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, Accepting a $1,000 Donation from the Shakopee Jaycees, to Purchase Training Equipment and Supplies for the Police Department's Emergency Driving Program, and move its adoption. RESOLUTION NO. 7061 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ACCEPTING $1,000 FROM THE SHAKOPEE JAYCEES TO PURCHASE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT'S EMERGENCY DRIVING PROGRAM WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations valued at more than $1,000 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two- thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, the Shakopee Jaycees have graciously donated $1,000 to the Shakopee Police Department for the purchase of training equipment and supplies related to the department's emergency driving training program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation of $1,000 is gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
