CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Michael Hullander, Public Works Superintendent DATE: September 21, 2010 SUBJECT: Consider Ordinance No. 838 Amending Section 9.50, Sub. 8 (B) of the City Code. INTRODUCTION: Attached is Ordinance No. 838, amending Section 9.50, Subdivision 8 (B) Snow Emergency Routes of the City Code. BACKGROUND: City Council last amended City Code Section 9.50, Sub. 8 (B) on October 25, 2007. The Traffic Safety Committee is requesting council to consider an amendment to add Dakota Street from Fourth Avenue to Tenth Avenue. This recommendation is based on the heavy use of on-street parking in the High Density Housing area from Fourth Avenue to Milwaukee Road. This addition will allow snow removal crews to plow the street curb to curb to prevent the narrowing of the roadway in heavy snowfall events. 1. Section 9.50, Subdivision 8 (B) Snow Emergency Routes -Staff is requesting council to consider adding the following: Dakota Street from Fourth Avenue to Tenth Avenue. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt Ordinance No. 838, Amending Section 9.50, Sub. 8 (B) of the City Code. 2. Deny Ordinance No. 838. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends alternative No. 1 to adopt Ordinance No. 838 and publish this ordinance so that the public can be informed of the new restrictions to this coming snow season.
