No. 7028 CITY OF SHAKOPEE "ON"ENT Memorandum TO: Mayor & City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bruce Loney, City Engineer SUBJECT: Approve Plans and Specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair and Authorize Staff to Obtain Quotes, Project No. 2009 -6 DATE: July 7, 2009 INTRODUCTION: Attached is Resolution No., which approves the plans and specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair, Project No. 2009 -6. The project site is located north of the building containing Kohl's and Target. Attached are the plans for Council approval. BACKGROUND: Staff has completed a review of the proposed 2009 -2013 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes an annual erosion control project within the City. The existing ditch erosion has progressed to a point where it is necessary to perform grading improvements to restore the ditch bottom and side slopes, repair or replace rip - rap that has broken down over time and eroded away at the culvert aprons and install any necessary pipe or control structures. Plans have been prepared by staff to restore the channel and adding measures to control the storm water flow to the Mn/DOT pond. Attached is the cost estimate for the project which is $55,503.00. Since the estimate is less than $100,000.00, staff can obtain quotes for the construction and bring these back for Council at a future meeting. By approving the plans, staff can also submit for permit approvals from Mn/Dot, MPCA and encroachment agent with Xcel Energy. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 7028. 2. Deny Resolution No. 7028. 3. Table for additional information. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Alternative No. 1, so that the proposed Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair Project No. 2009 -6 can proceed for quotes for construction and to obtain the necessary permits and encroachment agreement. ACTION REOUESTED: Offer Resolution No. 7028, A Resolution Approving the Plans and Specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair, Project No. 2009 -6 and move its adoption. ruce Loney, P Public Works Director BUPmP ENGPJ2009 ENGINEERING PROJECTSISHAKOPEE VALLEY MARKETPLACE DRAINAGEMORDNEM- APPROVE PLANS = SPECIFICATIONS RESOLUTION NO. 7028 A Resolution Approving The Plans And Specifications For The Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair Project No. 2009 -6 WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 6917 adopted by the City Council on July 7, 2009, Bruce Loney, Public Works Director has prepared plans and specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace drainage System along the north side of the building housing Kohl's and Target by performing grading improvements, pipe, control structure, replacing rip -rap, turf establishment and any appurtenant work and has presented such plans and specifications to the Council for approval. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA: 1.
