Subject: Civil Defense Siren Purchase

INTRODUCTION
The Shakopee Police Department is seeking council approval to purchase a civil defense
siren to replace an existing non - functional one.
BACKGROUND
The civil defense siren at 500 Gorman Street is inoperable. This siren is approximately
thirty years old and due to its age cannot be repaired.
BUDGET IMPACT
Although vendors are limited two quotes were received, one from Frontline Plus Fire &
Rescue and one from Northern Safety Technology Inc. Frontline Plus submitted the
lower quote and they have proven to be a fair and dependable supplier of civil defense
sirens in the past.

Funds exist in the police department budget for this purchase. Money is budgeted in
capital equipment to upgrade the siren system but which appears to be delayed a year.
Funds can instead be used for this purchase.

Move to approve the purchase of a replacement civil defense siren from Frontline Plus
Fire and Rescue for $22,186.76.
