S H AKOPE E TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Jamie Polley, Parks & Recreation Director DATE: 12/15/2015 SUBJECT: Mighty Ducks Grant Acceptance, Res. No. 7657 (A, C) Action Sought To accept by Resolution No. 7657, a Mighty Ducks grant for the construction of the new Ice Arena. Background On November 20, 2015, City staff was notified by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission that the City of Shakopee was successful in the Mighty Ducks Grant program application and has been awarded $192, 645.00. The Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (MASC) awarded 15 grants totaling $2.2 Million under the Mighty Ducks Ice Arena Grant Program. The grants were awarded to assist communities in developing new arenas, improving indoor air quality in ice arenas and eliminating the use of R-22 systems in ice arena refrigeration. The grant contract shall remain in effect until June 1, 2017. Recommendation Staff recommends the acceptance of the Mighty Ducks grant. Budget Impact The grant is a dollar for dollar matching grant. Relationship to Vision A. Keep Shakopee a safe and healthy community where residents can pursue active and quality lifestyles. C. Maintain the City's strong financial health. Requested Action If Council concurs, offer Resolution No. 7657, A Resolution of the City of Shakopee Minnesota, Accepting a Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission Mighty Ducks Grant for the Construction of the New Ice Arena and move its adoption. Attachments: Resolution No. 7657 RESOLUTION NO. 7657 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING A MINNESOTA AMATEUR SPORTS COMMISSION MIGHTY DUCKS GRANT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW ICE ARENA WHEREAS, the City of Shakopee submitted a grant application to the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission Mighty Ducks Grant program for the development of a new ice arena; and, WHEREAS, the City has been notified that $192,645 in funding have been awarded to the City; and, WHEREAS, the funds are to be used for the purpose of constructing a new ice arena, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the City of Shakopee (The City) accepts the grant and will provide funding to match the grant award. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City is the fiscal agent for the grant, and the grant will be administered by Jamie Polley, Parks and Recreation Director, 1255 Fuller Street, Shakopee, Minnesota, 55379.
