SHAKOPE F TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator DATE: 12/01/2015 SUBJECT: Special Recognition of Employee Darwin Gilbertson Action Sought At the beginning of the December 1 City Council meeting, the Council is asked to recognize long-time seasonal employee Darwin Gilbertson, who has parked his mower for the final time after 12 seasons with the Public Works Department. A proclamation recognizing Mr. Gilbertson's contributions to the City is attached for Council consideration at Tuesday night's meeting. Attachments: Darwin Gilbertson Proclamation A PROCLAMATION OF APPRECIATION TO DARWIN E. GILBERTSON WHEREAS, Darwin E. Gilbertson was hired by the City of Shakopee as a summer seasonal maintenance laborer on May 10,2004; and, WHEREAS, he has dedicated 12 summer seasons mowing several acres of parks and ball fields for the enjoyment of residents, guests and many out of state visiting teams; and, WHEREAS, Darwin has been an asset to the City going above and beyond mowing steep hills, and having a strong dedication to a job well done with an unyielding positive attitude; and, WHEREAS, Darwin has operated and performed the daily maintenance of washing, greasing and cleaning the blades of his 16 foot deck mower; and, WHEREAS, during his years of service,Darwin, fondly known as"Gil",has been a mentor and huge inspiration to ALL City staff that he encountered; and, WHEREAS, Gil brightened the day of others upon arriving to work,offering kind words and his sense of humor; and, WHEREAS,he has made the decision to park his mower for the final time,passing the keys to a new generation; and, WHEREAS,Darwin E. Gilbertson has now submitted his resignation for the reason of retirement. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE,MINNESOTA,that it hereby accepts with great appreciation the resignation of Darwin E Gilbertson, effective October 19,2015; and, BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that on behalf of the elected officials, staff, and residents of Shakopee,we extend to him our gratitude for having made Shakopee a better place in which to live,work and play.
