SHAKOPEE TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mike Hullander, Public Works Superintendent DATE: 11/04/2015 SUBJECT: Sidewalk and Trail Snow Removal Routes for 2015-2016 (A, E) Action Sought Motion to approve the sidewalk and trail snow removal routes for 2015-2016. Background On December 6, 1994 City Council directed Public Works to begin snow removal on all sidewalks and trails that abut collector streets and county roadways. Staff currently has seven plow routes covering approximately seventy miles of sidewalks and trails. Staff has received requests from residents in the Whispering Oaks neighborhood to plow the trail along CSAH 18 to Horizon Dr. on the west and from Horizon Dr. to Whispering Oaks Trl. on the east. Staff is requesting a minor addition to sidewalk and trail snow removal route (6) to include the residents request. Staff would like to inform Council that in heavy snowfall years this trail segment may have delays in snow removal or may have to be closed due to the close proximity to CSAH 18 where all the snow is plowed directly onto the trail. Also as a reminder in extreme snow events, staff cannot meet the time lines as set forth in City Ordinance Sec 7.04 requiring the snow to be removed in (24) hours for commercial and (36) hours for residential sidewalks. Recommendation Staff recommends approval of the change to route 6 for 2015-2016. Budget Impact Funding has been included in the Parks Maintenance General Fund Budget. Relationship to Vision A.
