No. 7610 (D,E) Action Sought Offer Resolution No. 7610, A Resolution approving the road name change on a segment of County State Aid Highway 83, from US Trunk Highway 169 south to County Road 42 to Mystic Lake Drive. Background On April 7, 2015, a request from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) on the name change of Canterbury Road to Mystic Lake Drive from TH 169 south to County Road 42. After the presentation, Council directed staff to work with Scott County on the necessary actions. Staff did meet with Brad Davis, Scott County Planner on the next steps. Letters were sent to affected property owners in Shakopee and two property owners in Prior Lake on the proposed name change. Some property owners had objections and staff asked SMSC staff to contact owners about their objections. SMSC staff has met with property owners and the main concern is cost of changing their address. Attached is a letter from the SMSC offering $1,000 plus any documented expenses in changing their address. Staff believes the name change is appropriate as the split is at TH 169 interchange with CSAR 83. Also, the offer by the SMSC is more generous than the $250 maximum the County would pay for a name change under their Ordinance Number 24. If Resolution No. 7610 is approved by the City Council, then the County Board will need to act on the name change to make it official. Recommendation Offer Resolution No. 7610, A Resolution approving the road name change on a segment of County State Aid Highway 83, from US Trunk Highway 169 south to County Road 42 to Mystic Lake Drive. Budget Impact No budget impact. It improves access to all businesses located along Highway 83. As part of this project,we would like to identify County Road 83 south of Trunk Highway 169 with the name"Mystic Lake Boulevard". We realize that this change may result in some inconvenience for residents along the route. The reason for the name change is to have a consistent name south of TH 169 to County Road 82. Mystic Lake Drive is the current name on County Road 83 from County Road 42 to County Road 82. You, as a property owner, have ten days after these notices have been sent,to comment to the City. If you are affected financially by this name change, County Ordinance would allow for compensation up to $250.00 for actual costs incurred.However,you will need to contact me within these ten days from this letters date. • City Council shall make the final decision of the name change on the May 6,2015 Council meeting or a subsequent one. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE,MINNESOTA: 1.
