Action Sought
The Council is asked to authorize requested street closures, rule waivers and various
in-kind donations to the 2015 Move and Make on Main celebration put on by Main
Street Shakopee.
Background
The Move and Make on Main celebration is scheduled for
Saturday, September 12 on First Avenue.
Main Street Shakopee has submitted the attached list of requests for parking, road
closures and other in-kind support from the City's Public Works, Police and Parks
& Recreation departments. The requests are very similar to those of the Splash
Pads. In addition, Main Street Shakopee is requesting City Council's approval to
allow open intoxicates within the event area.
Budget Impact
Staff time will be needed to drop off and pick up the supplies, prepare the area and
clear the streets for the event.
Relationship to Vision
This item relates to Goal D: Maintain, improve and create strong partnerships with
other public and private sector entities.
Recommendation
I recommend approval of the requests.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to authorize,
1. The requested street closures, rule waivers and various in-kind donations to the
2015 Move and Make on Main, as outlined on the attached.
2. Open intoxicants within the event area during the stated event hours.

Main Street Shakopee is hosting an open-streets event on Saturday, September 12 from 11 AM—2 PM.The
purpose of the event is to showcase the sites, sounds,tastes and activities that can be experienced in downtown
shakopee and surrounding district on foot and cycle.The Move and Make on Main event is produced by The
Musicant Group, an award-winning placemaking firm and funded by Minnesota GreenStep Cities through a
demonstration grant aimed at showing how green-and environmentally-friendly initiatives can be implemented
through Minnesota Main Street programs.
Please find the attached map with requested street closures.We are also requesting the use of city cones to
cone-off a bike lane on the Holmes Street bicycle boulevard,additional garbage and recycling containers, and
assistance with no-parking,street-closure and traffic direction signs. All indicated on map.
SUMMARY OF REQUESTS
• 1st Avenue street closure from Holmes St to Summerville St from 9:00 AM—2:30 PM (and Police Dept
assistance clearing the street starting at 9:00 AM to allow for event set-up)
• 4 barricades
• 1 road closed to thru traffic(Holmes Street)
• 4 trash receptacles,4 recycling receptacles (and pick-up following event)
• Orange cones for Holmes Street"bike lane"
• No parking signs in advance of event—posted Friday"NO PARKING 9:00 AM—2:30 PM"
• Not reflected on map: No parking on the east side of Holmes Street from 1St to 2"d Ave(to allow for
coning off and use of expanded bicycle boulevard)
We are especially excited to showcase the work of the Bicycle Advisory Committee's work toward the bicycle-
friendly city distinction and Main Street Shakopee's upcoming place-based wayfinding and destination signage
plan! Other activities going on will be:
• Community booths and family friendly activities
• Programming and performers
• Food and beverages for sale
• Lawn games and summer outdoor fun
• Holmes Street Tunnel Mural painting and art
