No. 911 Action Sought If it so desires, the Council is asked to adopt Ordinance No. 911 establishing a four-year term for the office of Mayor, and direct its publication. Background At the August 5 City Council meeting, the Council directed staff to prepare an ordinance establishing a four-year term for the office of Mayor. The necessary ordinance has been prepared by the City Attorney and is attached for Council's consideration. If adopted, the ordinance would not take effect until after this Fall's election. Therefore, the person elected to the office of Mayor in November of 2015 would still serve a two-year term. Requested Action If it so desires, Council is asked to adopt Ordinance No. 911, establishing a four-year term for the office of Mayor. Attachments: Ordinance No. 911 ORDINANCE NO. 911 Fourth Series AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE ADDING SECTION 2.15 TO THE CITY CODE ESTABLISHING A FOUR-YEAR TERM FOR THE OFFICE OF MAYOR THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ORDAINS: Section 1. Chapter 2 of the Shakopee City Code is amended to add the following provision: Sec. 2.15 OFFICE OF MAYOR. The term of office for the office of mayor shall be four years. This section shall not affect the term of office for any person elected to the office of mayor before December 31,2015. Section 2. Effective Date. This ordinance becomes effective from and after its adoption and publication. Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota held this 18th day of August,2015.
