No. 7007 CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Jamie Polley, Director of Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources SUBJECT: Shakopee Sponsorship Program DATE: May 18, 2010 INTRODUCTION The City Council is asked to approve the revised Shakopee Facility Sponsorship Program. BACKGROUND The City Council adopted the Shakopee Sponsorship programs on July 7, 2009. The sponsorship program includes a booklet for facility sponsorship and a booklet for program and supplies sponsorship. The group "Shakopee Recreation: Bring People Together" (SR:BPT) has indicated that a portion of the funding for the community center improvement projects will come from donations and sponsorships. DISCUSSION At the May 4 th City Council discussed the facility sponsorship program as a tool that the SR:BPT group could utilize to fundraise for the improvement projects. The City would then allow the group to sell the sponsorship of the Community Center, Ice Arena and Senior Center rooms for a period of 10 years. Staff was directed to revise the Facility Sponsorship Program to include the rooms anticipated to be in the 2 nd Sheet of Ice and Senior Center. The revisions to the Community Center, Ice Arena and Senior Center sections are illustrated in Attachment A. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the Shakopee Sponsorship Program, attached hereto and made a part hereof, is hereby adopted and made a part of the Shakopee Sponsorship Program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Resolution No. 6921 is hereby amended by adding the attached Shakopee Sponsorship Program.
