No. 7014 CITY OF SHAKOPEE �, �, :t Memorandum I L, TO: Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator SUBJECT: Resignation of Recreation Supervisor Travis Karlen DATE: May 12, 2010 Introduction The City Council is asked to accept the resignation of Recreation Supervisor Travis Karlen, effective May 27, 2010. Background Travis Karlen began working for the City on December 3, 2001. He recently submitted his resignation, effective May 27, 2010. At the June 1 Council meeting, staff will return with a request to approve an updated job description and for authorization to begin the hiring process to fill the position. Recommendation Staff recommends that the resignation be accepted, with regret, and that the attached Resolution of Appreciation be adopted to recognize his nine and a half years of service. Requested Action The Council is asked to offer a motion to accept, with regret, the resignation of Travis Karlen, effective May 27, 2010, and offer Resolution No. 7014, A Resolution of Appreciation to Travis Karlen, a move its adoption. RESOLUTION NO. 7014 A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO TRAVIS M. KARLEN WHEREAS, Travis M. Karlen began his employment with the City of Shakopee on December 3, 2001, as a Recreation Supervisor with the Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Department, and WHEREAS, in almost nine and a half years of employment with the City of Shakopee, Travis provided important programs for the Shakopee Parks, Recreation and Natural Resource Department; and WHEREAS, Travis's excellent aquatic programming has allowed the residents of Shakopee to learn to swim and enjoy the water; and WHEREAS, Travis's expertise and passion for fitness have increased the quality of lives of many residents in Shakopee through healthy living and activity; and WHEREAS, due to his kind and generous nature and great organizational and management skills, Travis has made the Community Center and SandVenture Aquatic Facility wonderful places for the City's citizens and employees to recreate and work; and WHEREAS, Travis will leave his position with the City effective May 27, 2010. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that it does hereby express its deep appreciation to Travis Karlen for his nine and a half years of dedicated service to the City of Shakopee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council extends its best wishes for every happiness and success to Travis in his future endeavors.
