S'.F:'"
CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum cotJSE~j~r
TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Judith S. Cox, City Clerk
SUBJECT: Board of Equalization Resignation and Appointments
DATE: April 30, 2010
INTRODUCTION:
City Council is asked to accept a resignation from the Board of Equalization and make
appointments to fill positions on the five member Board.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Shane Mahowald has submitted his resignation from the Board of Equalization leaving three
citizens remaining on the Board. Councilor Lehman was appointed liaison to the Board on
January 5, 2010 at the time all liaison appointments were made.
It is appropriate to accept the resignation of Mr. Mahowald and make two appointments to the
Board to bring the membership to five for the upcoming Board of Equalization on May 11,2010.
Mayor Schmitt has indicated that he is available to fill one of the positions; other Council
members have conflicts.
(Mr. Mahowald is resigning so that the vacancy can be filled for 2010. He would have been
willing to take a leave of absence for 2010, but because his term actually expires in February,
2011 and in order to allow the position to be filled for 2010, he has resigned. He would be
interested in being reappointed to the Board of Equalization in February, 2011.)
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
1. Accept the resignation of Shane Mahowald from the Board of Equalization, with regrets.
2. Appoint Councilor Matt Lehman and Mayor John Schmitt to serve on the Board of
Equalization for 2010.
