Cox, City Clerk SUBJECT: Designating Polling Places for All Election Precincts DATE: April 28, 2010 INTRODUCTION: City Council is asked to adopt a resolution designating the polling places for Shakopee. BACKGROUND: City staff is recommending moving the polling place for precinct eight from the Calvary United Methodist Church on Vierling Drive to the Shakopee Police Station. Staff has recently been informed that the building is being put up for sale. Should the building change hands prior to the August or November elections, it may no longer be available as a polling place. State law requires the designation of a new a polling place no less than 90 days prior to an election and mailed notice to the registered voters within the precinct of the new polling place no less than 25 days prior to the election. Although the police station is located outside the precinct boundaries, it is located within one mile of the precinct boundaries, as allowed by state law. ALTERNATWES: 1. Change the polling place for precinct eight 2. Do not change the polling place for precinct eight RECOMMENDED ACTION: Offer Resolution No. 7005, A Resolution Designating Twelve Polling Places for All Election Precincts in the City of Shakopee, and move its adoption. h:\e1ection\Polling place change - Res 7005 RESOLUTION NO. 7005 A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING TWELVE POLLING PLACES FOR ALL ELECTION PRECINCTS IN THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE BE IT RESOLVED BY THECITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that there shall be twelve polling places for twelve election precincts in the City of Shakopee for the upcoming elections, and the polling places are hereby designated as follows: First Precinct - Valley View Baptist Church 1980 West 10th Avenue Second Precinct - Shakopee Library 235 South Lewis Street Third Precinct - Central Family Center 132 East 5th Avenue Fourth Precinct - Fire Station No. 51 2788 Vierling Drive East Fifth Precinct - Sweeney School 1001 Adams Street Sixth Precinct - Community Center 1255 Fuller Street Seventh Precinct - Faith Lutheran Church 150 West 130th Street (CR 78 and CR 79) Eighth Precinct - Shakopee Police Station 475 Gorman Street Ninth Precinct - Cross of Peace Lutheran Church 1506 E. Wood Duck Trail Tenth Precinct - Red Oak Elementary School 7700 Old Carriage Court Eleventh Precinct - Shakopee Area Catholic Education Center 2700 1 ih A venue East Twelfth Precinct - Presbyterian Church 909 South Marschall Road BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution supersedes Resolution No. 6058.
