SUBJECT: Designating Polling Places for All Election Precincts
DATE: April 28, 2010
INTRODUCTION:
City Council is asked to adopt a resolution designating the polling places for Shakopee.
BACKGROUND:
City staff is recommending moving the polling place for precinct eight from the Calvary United
Methodist Church on Vierling Drive to the Shakopee Police Station. Staff has recently been
informed that the building is being put up for sale. Should the building change hands prior to the
August or November elections, it may no longer be available as a polling place.
State law requires the designation of a new a polling place no less than 90 days prior to an
election and mailed notice to the registered voters within the precinct of the new polling place no
less than 25 days prior to the election.
Although the police station is located outside the precinct boundaries, it is located within one
mile of the precinct boundaries, as allowed by state law.
ALTERNATWES:
1. Change the polling place for precinct eight
2. Do not change the polling place for precinct eight
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Offer Resolution No. 7005, A Resolution Designating Twelve Polling Places for All Election
Precincts in the City of Shakopee, and move its adoption.
