No. 6993 S, F. ~, CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum CO~JSE~JT TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Acceptance of Donation-Downtown Partnership DATE: March 16,2010 Comment: Introduction: The City Council is asked to adopt a resolution accepting a donation of the Downtown Partnership for funding the hanging flower baskets in the downtown area for another growmg season. Background: For the past several years, the Downtown Partnership has worked with the City to provide hanging flower baskets in the downtown area. The Downtown Partnership buys the flowers and baskets and makes a donation to fund the "gator" vehicle which is used to water the flowers. The City provides the labor used to do the daily watering. This year, Downtown Partnership has made a donation of$1326.00 for the flowers. Because this is in excess of $1 000, City practice is to accept the donation via resolution. Because these are gambling proceeds, the Downtown Partnership must file a separate action to report the donation to the State, but nothing further is needed by the City. Recommendation: I recommend that the City accept the donation by means of resolution. Relationship to Visioning: The provision of the flowers supports Goal B, "High Quality of Life". Action Required: If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNSOTA ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $1326 FROM THE SHAKOPEE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP FOR FLOWER BASKETS '~L WllUu Mark McNeill City Administrator RESOLUTION NO. 6993 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNSOTA ACCEPTING A DONATION OF $1326 FROM THE SHAKOPEE DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP FOR FLOWER BASKETS WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No, 5794 specifies that donations of real property shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, The Shakopee Downtown Partnership has generously donated $1326 for downtown flower baskets, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation in the amount of$1326 is gratefully accepted; and, FURTHER, the $1326 donation shall be used towards the purchase of downtown flower baskets, which is consistent with the wishes of the donor.
