SUBJECT: Resignation of Firefighter Scott MacKinnon

Introduction
The City Council is asked to accept the resignation of firefighter Scott MacKinnon, effective
February 10.2010.
Background
Scott MacKinnon was hired as a paid-on-call firefighter in January of 2004. In August of 2009
he notified the City that he was taking a military leave from his position but would be requesting
reinstatement under the USERRA law upon conclusion of his 'military service in August of 20 12.
Chief Coleman has now received a letter of resignation from Mr. MacKinnon noting that he no
longer intends to return to the Fire Department and wishes to formally resign.
Relationship to Vision:
Goal F - General Housekeeping.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the resignation be accepted with regret.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to offer a motion to accept, with regret, the resignation of Scott MacKinnon
from his position as paid-on-call firefighter with the Shakopee Fire Department.
