CITY OF SHAKOPEE MEMORANDUM COrIS~~W~ , . ~"" ~'~ f,'~ , To: Mayor and City Council /ilL",,1I Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Brad Eller, Recreation Supervisor Meeting Date: January 5, 2010 Subject: Acceptance of $1000.00 donation from Shakopee Jaycees INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6978, a resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting a donation from the Shakopee Jaycees for $1,000 to be used in support of the Enigma Teen Center facility. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION Recreation Supervisor Brad Eller and five members of the Enigma Teen Advisory Board (T.A.B.) recently attended a Shakopee Jaycees meeting. A group presentation gave an overview of the history of the Enigma Teen Center, as well as information pertaining to what has taken place in 2009. The board also shared some ideas on needs and wants for the facility prior to making a formal request for a donation. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP The acceptance of the donation will enhance the City's teen center facility. This meets the following Goals of the City's Visioning: B-High quality of life. C-Great place for kids to grow up REQUESTED ACTION If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, offer Resolution No. 6978, A Resolution Accepting a $1,000.00 Donation from the Shakopee Jaycees, and move its adoption. RESOLUTION NO. 6978 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING A $1000.00 DONATION FROM THE SHAKOPEE JAYCEES WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property and non-monetary donations with a value greater than $500 shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, THE SHAKO PEE JAYCEES have generously presented the City with a $1,000 donation in support of the Enigma Teen Center facility; and WHEREAS, such a donation will help improve facilities and programs and enhance the overall quality of life in Shakopee. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donation in the amount of $1,000 is gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, the money shall be used in the City's teen center facility, which is consistent with the wishes of the donor. FURTHER, the City staff is directed to send a letter to the Shakopee Jaycees, acknowledging receipt of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
