No. 6974 SE, I , City of Shakopee Memorandum :~ """" 'i~h ~ 'h-t;! ~ TO: Mayor and City Council Pamela Punt, Councilor-Elect Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Kris Wilson, Assistant City Administrator SUBJECT: 2010 Wages and Salaries for Part-Time Fire Department Employees DATE: December 10, 2009 Introduction The City Council is asked to adopt the attached resolution, setting pay for the part-time employees and officers ofthe Shakopee Fire Department for calendar year 2010. Background Earlier this year, Fire Chief Rick Coleman presented the Council with a slightly revised organizational chart for the Fire Department and updated or revised job descriptions corresponding to that organizational chart. Chief Coleman's recommendations for filling those positions are presented as a separate item on this agenda. This item is a request for Council to authorize the annual salaries for these part-time officer positions, as well as the hourly wage for paid-on-call firefighters. The annual salary for part-time officers is paid in twelve monthly installments and is in addition to the hourly wage these individuals receive for attending calls, drills and meetings like any other firefighter. The recommended 2010 salaries for the 13 part-time officer positions are as follows: Officer Title # of Salary Officers Assistant Chief 1 $5,100 Deputy Chief of Training 1 $4,590 Deputy Chief of Engineering 1 $4,590 Captain 2 $2,350 Lieutenant 4 $2,040 Station Engineer 2 $1,730 SCBA Coordinator 2 $1,530 It should be noted that the 13 part-time officer positions listed above come from among the 46 paid-on-call firefighters authorized in the 2010 budget; they are not in addition to the 46. The proposed hourly wage for paid-on-call firefighters is $10.00 per hour, with a one hour minimum and all hours round up to the next full hour. This reflects no change from the 2009 hourly wage. Budget Impact Funding for these wages and salaries is included in the Fire Department's 2010 budget. Relationship to Vision A pay scale that attracts well-qualified candidates to the Shakopee Fire Department contributes to the effective operation of the department and in turn, a high quality of life for residents of Shakopee (Goal B). Requested Action: If the Council concurs, it should offer Resolution No. 6974, a resolution adopting the 2010 Pay Plan for Part-Time Employees of the Shakopee Fire Department, and move its adoption.
