SUBJECT: Acceptance of Donation from John & Bernice Collins, Resolution No.
6977.
INTRODUCTION:
City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6977, a resolution of the City of Shako pee,
Minnesota, accepting a donation of trees from John and Bernice Collins estimated to have
a whole sale value of $2,800.00.
BACKGROUND:
The City has received a donation of eight Colorado Spruce Trees from John and Bernice
Collins valued at $2,800.00.
City Park Staff used the Equipment Sharing Agreement and borrowed the City of Prior
Lakes 64 inch tree spade thatis mounted on a front end loader to move eight, ten foot tall,
Colorado spruce trees from John and Bernice Collins property to Tahpah Park. The trees
were planted west of field No.4 and will add aesthetic value between the parking lot and
field. The trees will also provide a wind break for field 4.
The City of Shakopee appreciates the generous donation from John and Bernice Collins
and has sent them a letter thanking them for the donation of trees valued at $2,800.00 and
also for their continued support of the City's park system.
The City's donation policy requires a 2/3 vote to accept donations of real property with a
value over $1,000.00.
ACTION REOUESTED:
Motion to adopt Resolution No. 6977, a resolution of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota,
accepting the donation from John and Bernice Collins.

RRESOLUTION No. 6977
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, ACCEPTING A
PROPERTY DONATION FROM JOHN AND BERNICE COLLINS.
WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which
established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property shall be accepted by
resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority of the Council for acceptance; and
WHEREAS, JOHN AND BERNICE COLLINS has generously donated eight Colorado spruce trees
with a monetary value of $2,800.00; and
WHEREAS, such trees will improve Tahpah Park and enhance the overall quality of life in
Shakopee.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE,
MINNESOTA, that the donations are greatly accepted; and
FURTHER, the donations shall be used for improvements at Tahpah Park, which is consistent
with the wishes of the donor.
FURTHER, that City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt of the
gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
Adopted in regular session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee, Minnesota held this 15th
Day of December, 2009.
