INTRODUCTION:
Council is asked to declare certain items held by the Police Department as surplus
property.
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently is in possession of numerous bicycles that have been
recovered and stored over the last several months. The attached memorandum, from
Community Service Officer Ryan Soliday, lists the bicycles that can now be disposed of.
In prior years the bicycles in good condition have been auctioned at the Bicycle Safety
Rally with the funds going into the City of Shakopee's General Fund. The bicycles that
were not sold were disposed of. We are seeking council approval to dispose of the
bicycles by auction. This group of bicycles is in addition to bicycles previously approved
for disposal by council.

This action supports:
Goal E: Financially Strong
Strategy 6: Provide high quality services
RECOMMENDATION:

property for the purpose of proper disposal.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Ifthe Council concurs, it, should, by motion, declare these items surplus property and
authorize staff to appropriately dispose of these items.

SUBJECT: Surplus Bicycles
The Shakopee Police Department is currently in possession of 36 bicycles that have been stored
as found property for several months. I would like to schedule an auction to sell the bicycles as
surplus property. The bicycles have been queried in NCIC and have been cross-compared with
the stolen/lost bicycle reports in our New World system. A list of the bicycles in the
Department's possession will be posted on the City of Shakopee's website prior to the auction.
Attached is a list of bicycles that are ready to be declared surplus property.
