Memorandum "1(~j%i TO: Honorable Mayor, City Council, and Pamela Punt, Councilor-Elect Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Sergeant Forberg SUBJECT: Surplus Property DATE: December 15th, 2009 INTRODUCTION: Council is asked to declare certain items held by the Police Department as surplus property. BACKGROUND: The Police Department currently is in possession of numerous bicycles that have been recovered and stored over the last several months. The attached memorandum, from Community Service Officer Ryan Soliday, lists the bicycles that can now be disposed of. In prior years the bicycles in good condition have been auctioned at the Bicycle Safety Rally with the funds going into the City of Shakopee's General Fund. The bicycles that were not sold were disposed of. We are seeking council approval to dispose of the bicycles by auction. This group of bicycles is in addition to bicycles previously approved for disposal by council. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP: This action supports: Goal E: Financially Strong Strategy 6: Provide high quality services RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends Council declare these items held by the Police Department as surplus property for the purpose of proper disposal. ACTION REQUESTED: Ifthe Council concurs, it, should, by motion, declare these items surplus property and authorize staff to appropriately dispose of these items. Forberg From: CSO Ryan Soliday SUBJECT: Surplus Bicycles The Shakopee Police Department is currently in possession of 36 bicycles that have been stored as found property for several months. I would like to schedule an auction to sell the bicycles as surplus property. The bicycles have been queried in NCIC and have been cross-compared with the stolen/lost bicycle reports in our New World system. A list of the bicycles in the Department's possession will be posted on the City of Shakopee's website prior to the auction. Attached is a list of bicycles that are ready to be declared surplus property.
