SUBJECT: Successful Completion of Probationary Period - Police Chief Jeff Tate

Introduction
The City Council is asked to recognize Jeff Tate's successful completion ofthe six-
month probationary period associated with his recent promotion and grant him full-time
regular status as Chief of Police / Emergency Management Director.
Background
In the six months since his promotion to the position of Chief, Jeff Tate has performed
very well in the position, and the City Administrator is recommending that he be granted
full-time regular employee status.
Note that as a Civil Service position, this promotion was subject to a six month
probationary period rather than the one year probationary period which is standard for
other City employees.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the Council recognize Chief Tate's successful completion of the
six-month probationary period and grant him full-time regular status as Chief of Police /
Emergency Management Director.

Requested Action
Ifit concurs, the Council should offer a motion to grant Jeff Tate full-time, regular status
as Chief of Police / Emergency Management Director.
