SUBJECT: Resignation of Firefighter Jon Wamsley
DATE: November 24,2009
Introduction
The City Council is asked to accept the resignation of firefighter Jon Wamsley, effective
November 1, 2009.
Background
Jon Wamsley has worked as a paid-on-call firefighter for the City since January of2004. Chief
Coleman recently received a letter of resignation dated November 1, 2009.
[NOTE: With this resignation, the City has 41 paid-on-call firefighters. The preliminary 2010
budget funds 46 paid-on-call positions. It is staffs intention to begin a hiring process for paid-
on-call firefighters in late winter or early spring of 2010. This will allow us to have candidates
through the process (which includes oral interviews, physical agility testing, background check,
pre-employment phsycological testing and a pre-employment medical exam/drug test) and ready
to start their formal training in August of201O. This will allow our new hires to participate in
their required coursework at the SCALE Joint Training Facility, alongside the rookie firefighters
from the other departments in Scott County.]
Relationship to Vision:
Goal F - General Housekeeping.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the resignation be accepted with regret.
Requested Action
The Council is asked to offer a motion to accept, with regret, the resignation of Jon Wamsley
from his position as paid-on-call firefighter with the Shakopee Fire Department.
