C. .0'\ '~J {' ~~\IT;' !' , ll~\:}bj~' To: Mayor and City Council, Pamela Punt, Council-Elect Mark McNeill, City Administrator Prom: Travis Karlen, Recreation Supervisor Subject: Acceptance of Donation from Shakopee Wal-Mart, Resolution No. 6966 Meeting Date: December 1, 2009 INTRODUCTION City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 6966, a resolution ofthe City of Shakopee, Minnesota, accepting a monetary donation in the amount of$IOOO.OO from the Shakopee Wal- Mart. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION The City has received a monetary donation from the Shakopee Wal-Mart in the amount of $1000.00. This donation was given to enhance program areas for youth in Shakopee. The donation purchased chairs that will be used in programming rooms at the Shakopee Community Center. The City of Shako pee appreciates the generosity of the Shakopee Wal-mart, which helps support the City's parks and recreation services. The City's donation policy requires a 2/3 vote to accept cash donations over $1,000 and donations of real property. RELATIONSHIP TO VISION D. Vibrant, resilient and stable REQUESTED ACTION City Council is asked to, by motion: 1. Adopt Resolution No. 6966, a resolution of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota, accepting the donation from the Shakopee Wal-Mart. IL ~tn/ - Recreation Supervisor RESOLUTION NO. 6966 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA ACCEPTING A MONETARY DONATION FROM THE SHAKOPEE WAL-MART. WHEREAS, on November 6, 2002, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 5794, which established procedure relating to the receipt of gifts and donations by the City; and WHEREAS, Resolution No. 5794 specifies that donations of real property shall be accepted by resolution of the City Council, and shall require a two-thirds majority ofthe Council for acceptance; and WHEREAS, SHAKOPEE W AL-MART has generously given a monetary donation in the amount of$l,OOO; and WHEREAS, such donations will support youth programming enhance the overall quality of life in Shakopee. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the donations are gratefully accepted; and FURTHER, the donations shall be used to support youth programming, which is consistent with the wishes of the donor. FURTHER, the City staff is directed to send a letter to the donor, acknowledging receipt . of the gift and expressing the appreciation of the City Council.
