(,' '. .. r r~1i1 Mark McNeill, City Administrator i ~., FROM: Michael Hullander, Public Works Superintendent RE: Squad Car Purchases DATE: November 17, 2009 Introduction Council is requested to authorize the purchase of two squad cars. As provided in the 2010 buo.get. Background The 2010 budget includes an appropriation of $78,000.00 for the purchase of two squad cars. Funding is from the Capitai Equipment Internal Service Fund. The vendor cost for squad cars last year was $24,177.36 each, including extended warranty, same price as this years purchase. The new cars will replace two models purchased in 2006. Most of the equipment from the 2006 squads will transfer into the new units. Two new radar units, and two camera's will be added along with some miscellaneous lights and wiring for an equipment cost of approximately $16,500.00 for the two squads. Labor to set up is estimated to be $5,120 each. The City mechanic recommends an extended warranty of 4 Yrs!100,OOO miles with a $50.00 deductible. The warranty is recommended due to axle and transmission problems in the past. The State of Minnesota contract was awarded as shown below. Options listed are as requested by the department and are at manufacturer-to-dealer invoice pricing. Authorize the purchase. 2. Deny the purchase. 3. Table for additional information. Recommendation Alternative number 1. Action Move to authorize the purchase of two full size police squads from Elk River Ford,Inc. in the amount of $48,584.72 in accordance with the State of Minnesota patrol car contract #439865.
