CITY OF SHAKOPEE
Memorandum
CONSEtJT
TO: Mayor and City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Rick Coleman, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Surplus Equipment
DATE: November 4, 2009
Introduction:
The Council is asked to declare the 1986 Spartan Rescue truck as surplus property.
Background:
The 1986 Spartan Rescue truck was put into service back in 1986 as a heavy-duty rescue,
which at the time was the only rescue truck the Fire Department had in its fleet. In 2006, the
city purchased a medium duty rescue truck for Station 1. The following year (2007), a second
medium duty rescue truck was purchased for Station 2. With the purchase of the two new
rescue trucks and moving some equipment around, the1986 Spartan Rescue truck is no longer
needed by the Shakopee Fire Department.
Recommendation:
Staff recommends that we place the 1986 Spartan Rescue on e-bay and sell the rescue truck to
the highest bidder.
Relationship to Visioning:
This supports Goal F, "Housekeeping Item"
Requested Action:
If the Council concurs, it should move to declare the 1986 Spartan Rescue truck as surplus
property and place the rescue truck on e-bay.
