Ii .1 hi, \~ i" ....\1 ~ UJ ".'....'.., Memorandum 1\' ".~.':,,!)ifl' To: Honorable Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Craig Robson, Captain Subject: Electronic Ticketing Software Purchase Date: October 6, 2009 INTRODUCTION The Police Department is seeking council approval to use DWI forfeiture funds to pay for software and hardware necessary for electronic ticketing. BACKGROUND Electronic ticketing (E- Ticketing) was originally proposed in 2007 as a collaborative project between the Scott County Sheriffs Department, the law enforcement entities of Scott County and Scott County Court Administration to automate and add efficiencies related to the issuing and processing of citations. The Shakopee Police Department planned to use DWI forfeiture fund this purchase but delayed payment due to system performance issues. Significant improvements have been made in the project and the police department is now ready to pay for its portion of the related costs. The Shakopee Police Department's portion ofthe cost for this project total $20,497.30. BUDGET IMP ACT Funds exist in the department DWI forfeiture account and there is no impact to the police department's general budget. Authorize appropriate City staff to use DWI forfeiture funds to pay for software and hardware necessary for electronic ticketing. 2. Table for further information from staff. 3. Deny the motion. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends alternative one. ACTION REQUESTED: If council concurs, they should by motion approve the purchase of electronic ticketing software and hardware using DWI forfeiture funds in the amount of $20,497.30.
