SUBJECT: Payment to the Scott County Meth Task Force
DATE: August 27,2009
INTRODUCTION:
The City Council is asked to authorize the payment of$1,500.00 from the Shakopee
Police Department drug forfeiture fund to the Meth Task Force. The $1,500.00 will go
directly to off-set the costs associated with drug prevention presentations in the Shakopee
School District.
BACKGROUND:
The Meth Task Force has been committed to educating our youth in areas of drug abuse
and prevention. The Meth Task Force continues to provide students with anti-
methamphetamine and anti-gateway drug information through presentations of CLIMB
Theater. The current cost to conduct these presentations in the Shakopee School District
is $6,360. The $1,500.00 from the police department's drug forfeiture fund would go to
off-set some of those costs.
The Meth Task Force has surveyed teachers after these presentations. Results showed
that 97 percent of teachers found this program to be of value to the students. The
Shakopee Police Department also feels there is value in these presentations, and we
believe they are making a difference.
