CITY OF SHAKOPEE Police Department Memorandum CONSEr~T To: Honorable Mayor, City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Sergeant Lynn Lipinski Subject: Acceptance of the MN Department of Commerce, Auto Theft Prevention Grant Date: August 18, 2009 INTRODUCTION The Council is asked to consider Resolution # 6927, a resolution of the City of Shako pee regarding participation in the Minnesota Department of Commerce Auto Theft Prevention Grant program. City staff is seeking council approval to enter into a grant agreement with the State of Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce and to accept $31,828 in funding for Auto Theft Prevention. BACKGROUND On July 9, 2009 city staff was notified by the Minnesota Department of Commerce that the Shakopee Police Department was successful in its Auto Theft Prevention grant application and was awarded $31,828 in funding. The grant provides the police department funding for the prevention and enforcement of initiatives to reduce the incidence of auto theft in the City of Shakopee. BUDGET IMPACT This grant does not require a local match. VISIONING RELATIONSHIP: This action supports: Goal B - High Quality of life. Strategy 6: Provide high quality services , AL TERNATIVES 1. Allow staff to enter into a grant agreement with the State of Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce and accept $31,828 in funding for Auto Theft Prevention. 2. Do not allow the acceptance. 3. Table for further information from staff. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends alternative one. ACTION REQUESTED If Council concurs, they should offer Resolution No.6927, A Resolution Authorizing Execution of an Agreement for the Project Entitled MN Department of Commerce Auto Theft Prevention Grant, and move its adoption. Resolution No. 6927 A RESOLUTION OF THE SHAKOPEE CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT FOR THE PROJECT ENTITLED MN DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE AUTO THEFT PREVENTION GRANT BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the Shakopee Police Department enter into a grant agreement with the Minnesota Department of Commerce, for an Auto Theft Prevention Grant. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor, City Clerk and City Administrator, on behalf ofthe Shakopee Police Department, are hereby authorized to execute such agreements and amendments as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the Shakopee Police Department.
