5. F. 1-.
CITY OF SHAKOPEE CONSENT
Memorandum
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator
SUBJECT: Acceptance of Donations-Rotary Club
DATE: July 7, 2009
Comment:
Introduction:
The Council is asked to adopt a resolution accepting donations of $9000, and $3500 from
the Shakopee Rotary Club. The donations are to be used for the playground in Huber
Park, and for repairs to trailside rest facilities.
Background:
Several years ago, Shakopee Rotary committed to donating $50,000 towards the Huber
Park project. That money has been put towards the Huber Park playground. For that
reason, the playground is named in recognition of the Shakopee Rotary Club. The receipt
ofthis money fulfills that $50,000 commitment.
In addition, Rotary has also donated $3500 to the city, which will be used to reimburse
the cost of improvements to rest stops that have been constructed by Rotary over the
years, along the DNR river trail. The rest stops are in the vicinity of Memorial Park, and
the Levee Drive Apartments.
By State Law, any donation in excess of $1 000 must be accepted by the City through a
resolution. The $9000 in contributions will be retained by the City, and will be used to
reimburse the Huber Park playground committee for future maintenance and expansion
activities. The $3500 will be used to reimburse Rotary for expenses incurred in the
periodic improvements to the river trail amenities.
Relationship to Visioning:
This supports Goal C "Great place for kids to grow up".
Recommendation:
I recommend that the resolution be adopted.
Action Required:
If the Council concurs, it should, by motion, adopt the following resolution: A Resolution
Accepting a Donation of $9000, and $3500 from the Shakopee Rotary Club for
improvements to a playground and trail amenities in Shakopee Minnesota.
