SUBJECT: 2009 Trail Sealcoat
INTRODUCTION:
Public Works is requesting council accept the low bid from Gopher State Sealcoat, Inc. for the price of $19,600.00 and
authorize staff to proceed with the 2009 Trail Sealcoat Project.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Shako pee has approximately 50 miles of bituminous Trails, 12 Basketball Courts, 9 Tennis Courts, 1 Skate
Park and 2 bituminous Hockey Rinks. The 2009 Parks Maintenance Budget identifies $30,000.00 for trail maintenance
and $30,000.00 for court maintenance which includes tennis and basketball courts along with the bituminous hockey rinks
and skate park. The total amount of $60,000 will be used as follows: $19,600.00 Trail Sealcoat, $15,000.00 Trail
Overlay, $12,000.00 for Basketball Court maintenance at Scenic Heights, Prairie Bend, Hiawatha, Holmes and Timber
Trails Parks and the remaining $13,000.00 to be used for sealcoating the Lions Park Hockey Rink and service road. The
Hockey Rink requires a different application and staff will be requesting quotes for this work. Staff has received five
quotes for the 2009 Trail Sealcoat Project, below are the quotes to sealcoat 33,834 L.F. (6.4 miles) of Trails.

5. Gopher State Sealcoat, Inc. 19,600.00
Staff is requesting council accept the low quote from Gopher State Sealcoat, Inc. for $19,600.00 and authorize staff to
proceed with the 2009 trail sealcoat project.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Accept the low quote and proceed with the 2009 Trail Sealcoat Project.
2. Deny the requested action.
3. Table for additional information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative Number One.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Move to accept the low quote from Gopher State Sealcoating, Inc. for the price of$19,600.00 and authorize staff to
proceed with the 2009 Trail Sealcoat Project.
