SUBJECT: Approve the Preparation of Plans and Specifications for the
Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair, Project No. 2009-6

INTRODUCTION:
Attached is Resolution No. 6917, which approves the preparation of plans and
specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair, Project No. 2009-6.
The project site is located north of the building containing Kohl's and Target. Attached
is a project location map.
BACKGROUND:
Staff has completed a review of the proposed 2009-2013 Capital Improvement Program
(CIP), which includes an annual erosion control project within the City. Attached is the
CIP sheet identifying the proposed annual erosion control project.
The existing ditch erosion has progressed to a point where it is necessary to perform
grading improvements to restore the ditch bottom and side slopes, repair or replace rip-
rap that has broken down over time and eroded away at the culvert aprons and install any
necessary pipe or control structures.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Adopt Resolution No. 6917.
2. Deny Resolution No. 6917.
3. Table for additional information.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends Alternative No.1, so that the proposed Shakopee Valley Marketplace
Drainage Repair Project can be initiated for possible construction.
ACTION REQUESTED:
Offer Resolution No. 6917, A Resolution Approving the Preparation of Plans and
Specifications for the Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair, Project No. 2009-6
and move its adoption.

A Resolution Approving The Preparation Of Plans
And Specifications For The
Shakopee Valley Marketplace Drainage Repair
Project No. 2009-6
WHEREAS, it is proposed to improve the Shakopee Valley Marketplace drainage system
along the north side of the building housing Kohl's and Target by perfonning grading
improvements, pipe, control structure, replacing rip-rap and turf establishment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that the proposed improvement be referred to Bruce Loney,
Public Works Director, who is hereby designated as the engineer for this improvement. He shall
prepare plans and specifications for the making of this improvement.
The work of this project is hereby designated as part of the 2009-6 Public Improvement
Program.
Adopted in session of the City Council of the City of Shakopee,
Minnesota, held this day of ,2009.
