City of Shakopee CONSENT Police Department Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator From: Robert Forberg, Sergeant Rf Subject: Continuing seventy-hour coverage for Community Service Officers Date: December 23,2002 Introduction: The Police Department is seeking authorization to continue Community Service Officer (CSO) Yzermans at her current forty-hour work schedule and Community Service Officer (CSO) Cherrier at his current thirty-hour work schedule. Background: The Police Department is currently budgeted for ninety hours to employ three Community Service Officers, at thirty hours each a week. Currently there are two CSO's employed by the city. CSO Yzermans works full-time at forty hours per week, while CSO Cherrier is part-time at thirty hours per week. At the December 1 i\ 2002 meeting, it was the consensus by City Council not to fill the twenty hours that are open for the budgeted CSO position. Recommendation: Staff recommends that the Council continues to fund the existing CSO positions. CSO Y zermans will maintain forty hours a week and CSO Cherrier will maintain a thirty hours work week. Budget Impact: Funds currently exist in the 2003 budget to continue with one full-time and one part-time CSO position. Action Requested: If the council concurs, they should, by motion, continue the status ofCSO Yzermans as full-time and CSO Cherrier as part-time.
