RESOLULTION NO. 5850
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CANDIDACY
OF WILLIAM P. MARS OF SHAKOPEE,
AS METROPOLITAN COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE
FOR DISTRICT 5

WHEREAS, William P. Mars of Shako pee has applied to be appointed to the
Metropolitan Council District 5 seat, which represents Richfield, Bloomington,
Shakopee, and Savage; and
WHEREAS, prior to his election as Mayor, William P. Mars served for more than
10 years on the Shakopee Planning Commission, and in that time, accumulated a detailed
working knowledge ofland use and planning issues; and
WHEREAS, William P. Mars was elected Mayor by the voters of Shakopee in
2001; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor, William P. Mars has served on the Mayors' Regional
Housing Task Force, examining issues relating to affordable housing; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor, William P. Mars has been involved with researching
issues of regional importance and significance; and
WHEREAS, this combination of experience and service makes William P. Mars
uniquely qualified to serve the residents of Metropolitan Council District 5 in a manor
which will be of benefit to them, but also, to all residents and businesses of the Twin
Cities Metropolitan area under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNICL OF THE
CITY OF SHAKOPEE, MINNESOTA, that it endorses the candidacy of William P.
Mars for appointment to serve as District 5 representative for the Metropolitan Council.
IT FURTHER RESOLVES that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the
Metropolitan Council Nominating Committee.
Adopted in adjourned regular session of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota held
this 21st day of January, 2003.
