SUBJ: Vehicle Purchases

Introduction
The 2003 Internal Service Fund budget contains appropriations for
three light trucks.
Background
The 2003 budget contains $25,000.00 for a half-ton 4x4 pickup for
the Street Department, $32,000.00 for a half -ton 4x4 pickup for
the Fire Department, $35,000 for a full size pickup for the Street
Department. Addressed in this memo is only the purchase of the
trucks, not including sales tax, fees, delivery or attachments
such as a snowplow. Funds are allocated in the Internal Service
Fund for these purchases. The first truck for the Street
Department would replace a 1998 squad. The Fire Department truck
will replace a 1994 ' Suburban that will be passed down to the
Inspection Department. The second Street Department truck will
replace a 1988 GMC that will be sold at auction.
The Hennepin County contract for this vehicle was awarded as shown
below.
4x4 pickup - full size extended cab
Fire = contract cost $17,756.00
Shop manual 250.00
Total $18,006.00
The Minnesota State contract for this vehicle was awarded as shown
below. Options listed are as requested by the department and are
at manufacturer-to-dealer invoice pricing.
Pickup 4x4 1 ton
Street = contract cost $18,991.00
Contract options:
5.4L V8 Engine (533.00)
Snow plow prep. Package 115.00
Towing Package 132.00
Receiver hitch 149.00
Bedliner 180.00
Shop Manual 145.00
Total $19,179.00
Alternatives
1- Buy units as per above.
2. Modify options.
3. Re-bid units on our own.
4. Do not buy trucks this year.
Recommendation
Alternative number 1- At this time it is recommended that the
half-ton pickup for Street Department not be purchased. The Street
Supervisor states that the 1998 squad still meets the needs of the
department.
Action Requested
Move to authorize the purchase of a full size extended cab pickup
from Nelson Dodge-GMC in the amount of $18,006.00 under the
Hennepin County contract.
Move to authorize the purchase of a 1 ton 4x4 pickup from Superior
Ford in the amount of $19,179.00 under the Minnesota State
contract.
