SHAKOPEE POLICE DEPARTMENT CO~~SE~~T Memorandum '", '10 '.' - TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Dan Hughes, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Department of Natural Resources Snowmobile Enforcement Grant DATE: January 9, 2003 INTRODUCTION: The Police Department is seeking Council authorization to accept a reimbursement grant from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. BACKGROUND: On December 20, 2002, the Shakopee Police Department was advised of the opportunity to receive a reimbursement grant of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500.00) for snowmobile enforcement efforts, through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Allowable expenses under this grant are those relative to enforcement, purchase, maintenance and repair of rescue sleds, repairs to snowmobiles and trailers, and the purchase of non-standard uniform and protective gear. The structure ofthis grant requires that the Police Department make expenditures toward extra snowmobile enforcement and safety and then submit expenses to the state for reimbursement. This duration of the grant is from the date filed at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources until June 30, 2003. Completed grant reports are due by May 1,2003. BUDGET IMPACT This grant requires no local matching funds. ACTION REQUESTED If Council concurs, they should, by motion authorize the appropriate City staff to enter into a grant agreement with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
