CITY OF SHAKOPEE Memorandum TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Mark McNeill, City Administrator SUBJECT: Surplus Equipment DATE: February 21,2003 COMMENT: Introduction: The Council is asked to declare a street sweeper to be surplus equipment, so that it may be advertised for sale. Background: There has been recent discussion by the Council regarding the disposition of vehicles that are due for replacement. Typically, depending on the type of vehicle in question, the City has sought to trade those in, or has placed them for sale. State law does require a competitive process to be used in either case. The Public Works Division has a Pelican-brand streetsweeper that is due for replacement. They do have a trade-in value; they would like authority to advertise it to see if a third- party sale would generate more income. To do this, it must first be classified as surplus property. It would then be advertised, and a report will come back to Council as to which would be the more advantageous. Recommendation: We recommend that the Pelican streetsweeper be declared as surplus property, and that staffbe authorized to advertise its availability for sale. Action Required: If the Council concurs, it should by motion, declare the Pelican-brand streetsweeper as being surplus property, and that the staffbe authorized to advertise it as being for sale. \v,~{L~ Mark McNeill City Administrator
