Memorandum . 3V~~~1lt:ii ..~
TO: Mayor & City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Kim Henke, IT Coordinator
Tracy Schaefer, Assistant to the City Administrator
Jerry Poole, Deputy Police Chief
SUBJECT: New Police Department Building - Video Cabling
DATE: June 3, 2003
Introduction
Video cabling is required in the new police department building for all its
television/video needs.
Background
ill addition to the Category 6 cabling for telecommunications needs, cabling also needs to
be installed to meet police department television/video needs. Staff recommends using
FS Technology, since the company, if city council concurs, will be installing the
Category 6 cabling. Thus all cabling can occur at the same time, which will save on
labor costs and construction delays. The Category 6 cabling will be unable to meet video
needs of the police department, so both Category 6 and video cabling are needed.
Budget Impact
FS Teclmology Group is an authorized state bid contractor, thus has been previously
approved by the state for municipal contracting. The overall bid price includes labor and
materials.
Labor and materials should not exceed $1,579. These funds will be taken from the
police department building contingency fund. The Police Department building
contingency fund is roughly $300,000.
Action
Direct appropriate city officials to enter into a contract awarding the police building
video cabling work to FS Tech, for the amount of $1,579 from the police department
contingency fund.
