CITY OF SHAKO PEE CONSENT Police Department Memorandum TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Mark McNeill, City Administrator FROM: Bob Forberg, Sergeant ~f SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire One Community Service Officer DATE: July 9, 2003 INTRODUCTION: The Police Department is requesting Council approval to fill one vacant, probationary part-time Community Service Officer (CSO) position. BACKGROUND: The Shakopee Police Department experienced one voluntary CSO termination. In the 2003 budget, Council authorized three, three part-time CSO positions. One of the positions has been filled by Jaclyn Scheerz. The remaining two vacant positions were unfilled because the Civil Service Commission's eligible register for the positions expired. The Commission recently conducted the necessary testing and a new eligible register has been created. The following names are currently listed on the eligible register, in alphabetical order. Timothy Baker Nicholas Delaney Corey Stanley Minnesota State Statute Chapter 419 requires the Police Civil Service Commission to submit the top three names listed on the eligible register to the Appointing Authority (City Council), to fill any vacancy. AL TERNA TIVES: 1. Do not authorize the hire. 2. Authorize the hire of Timothy Baker. Memo to Council- July 9, 2003 1 Hire One Community Service Officer RECOMMENDATION: Alternative #2. Staff recommends Council authorize the hiring of Timothy Baker as a probationary part-time, Community Service Officer. BUDGET IMP ACT: The position was budgeted for in the 2003 Police Department budget. ACTION REQUESTED: If the Council concurs, they should, by motion, authorize the hiring of Timothy Baker as a probationary part-time, Community Service Officer at an hourly rate of$13.37, subject to the satisfactory completion of pre-employment medical and psychological examinations. A. 419. 1. Timothy Baker 2. Nicholas Delaney 3. Corey Stanley SV:pm
