CONSENT
City of Shakopee IS: F 'I.
Memorandum
TO: Mayor & City Council
Mark McNeill, City Administrator
FROM: Tracy Schaefer, Assistant to the City Administrator
SUBJECT: Acceptance of Wells Fargo Historical Shakopee Pictures
MEETING DATE: August 6, 2003
Introduction
City Council is asked to accept a donation from Wells Fargo of two Shakopee historical
pictures, which would be hung in the new Library's Local Heritage Room.
Background
A representative from Wells Fargo (formerly Marquette Bank) contacted me to see if the
city would be interested in using the 36" x 102" picture of Shakopee area landmarks and
scenes as well as the miniature (attached copy) that gives the details of each
landmark/scene.
Wells Fargo recently purchased the old Marquette Bank, located on 4th & Marschall, and
no longer has a need for the large Shakopee picture in its lobby. The Wells Fargo
representative indicated that she walks by the new library everyday and hoped that the
city could find a spot for the picture to be preserved in the new library.
After reviewing the pictures, city staff agreed, this would be a wonderful addition to the
new library. An unknown artist did the picture a few years ago; however, the picture is
valued at over $6,000.
If the Council concurs that it would like to accept the pictures, city staff will forward
such a recommendation to the County Library Board for their final approval. The city
will own the picture; however, the County Library Board does have an art policy for the
library system. I have had a chance to speak with County Library Director, Vanessa,
Birdsey, and she agrees that Scott County would also be excited to display the picture as
well.
Action Requested
If City Council concurs, it should, by motion adopt Resolution Number 5920, A
Resolution of the City of Shako pee, Minnesota, Accepting two pictures from Wells
Fargo. fe~
